Schedule: This is a 40-hour-per-week position, working in the office on Mondays and in the field, Tuesday through Friday. Some Saturdays will be required. This position requires availability during the programming hours of 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. Times are subject to change based on programming needs.

This is a temporary, grant-funded position until December of 2024, with the possibility of extending until December of 2025. The work will be primarily done in the Eagle County area, Dotsero to Vail.

Hourly Range: $20 – $24 per hour. Commensurate with experience.

Job Description:

The FFN Family Educator is part of the Family Friends and Neighbors Team (FFN) at Valley Settlement. The FFN Family Educator will become well-versed in the different avenues of becoming a licensed or qualified exempt (QE) in-home childcare provider through the State of Colorado as well as well-versed in early childhood development. The FFN Family Educator will work directly with FFN providers in the Eagle River and Roaring Fork valleys to support them on early childhood development topics by training the providers with the FFN program’s curriculum and materials.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Program Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and conduct home visits with providers twice a month and maintain a trusting working relationship with them
  • Organize community trips with providers and agencies  to support community integration
  • Become an expert in the State of Colorado in-home childcare licensure and qualified exemption requirements through an in-house training
  • Identify challenges and barriers for providers and their families and make timely referrals to our family support team for resources
  • Complete reporting requirements when needed and ensure data is entered into our database (Trax solutions) accurately
  • Support and lead FFN Saturday trainings along with the FFN team
  • Check in with manager, as needed, and attend regular team meetings
  • Work collaboratively with the FFN team members
  • Communicate in culturally appropriate ways with FFN providers
  • Ensure materials are prepped and ready for programing activities
  • Design lesson plans and activities around early childhood development

Organization Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for new FFN provider recruitment and enrollment through various sources, including door-knocking
  • Represent VS values and work in alignment with our vision and mission in all spaces where you represent the organization
  • Participate by sharing ideas, resources, and insights in staff meetings and other settings where we are all together
  • Work in collaboration with all VS staff
  • Other duties, as assigned

  • Ability to communicate easily with all staff and participants, demonstrating active listening skills
  • Desire to learn more about early child development and share knowledge with providers
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with providers and families
  • Display empathy and respect for the FFN model and the FFN providers

  Minimum Requirements:

  • Spanish required, English at an intermediate level
  • Home visitation experience (either having received home visits or conducted them)
  • Knowledge of community served
  • Experience in community work, education, health care, or related field
  • Technology skills: personal computer, cell phone, Internet/online application systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive (Documents & Spreadsheets)
  • Have and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license
  • Available and reliable vehicle to visit families in their homes and to travel throughout the community (mileage reimbursed)

Physical Requirements:

The job duties require an employee to handle the physical demands of the work, including prolonged periods of standing, frequent bending and sitting on the floor. The employee must also be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time and load and unload materials at various class sites. Lastly, this job may require going up and down stairs.
