Reports To: Adult Focused Programs Manager
Schedule: This is a 40-hour per week position, Monday through Friday. This position requires availability during programming hours from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, with some evening availability required. Times are subject to change based on programming needs.
Compensation Range: $21.64 – $26.45, based on qualifications and previous relevant work experience.

General Description: Valley Settlement’s Parent Mentor program is a parent engagement and empowerment program where parents volunteer in school classrooms, working one-on-one and in small groups with students. In addition, the Parent Mentor Program provides training and experiences to parents that support the increase of their core life skills, self-esteem, and parent engagement in the schools and community. This position will also work with the babysitting team to care for children of participants in Valley Settlement programming.
Duties and Responsibilities, include but not limited to:
- Recruit volunteers for the Parent Mentor program and organize meetings
- Register Parent Mentors in the program database
- Place volunteers with teachers in coordination with the Lead Volunteer Coordinator
- Facilitate the Parent Mentors’ initial orientation and introduction to the school community at the direction of the Lead Volunteer Coordinator
- Coordinate and oversee the Parent Mentors’ commitments with Lead Volunteer Coordinator
- Plan, coordinate and deliver weekly trainings for the Parent Mentors with the Lead Volunteer Coordinator at various sites
- Visit participating schools regularly and meet one-on-one with Parent Mentors as needed
- Provide guidance and follow-up to Parent Mentors to help them reach their goals
- Collect attendance sheets from the schools and enter in the tracking system
- Track Parent Mentors’ attendance and hours in the classroom, attendance at trainings and track when a Parent Mentor leaves the program. Track other data as needed.
- Works with Pasitos al Futuro, the babysitting team, on a weekly basis
- Refer Parent Mentors to the Family Support Team as needed
- Communicate concerns and issues with Parent Mentors and their assigned teachers to the Lead Volunteer Coordinator
- Organize events for the Parent Mentors (celebrations, graduation, etc.)
- Translate verbal and written communication in Spanish and English when working in the schools, with Parent Mentors and for various program activities
- Attend school meetings as a representative of the program; coordinate and support the attendance of Parent Mentors at these meetings
- Do home visits as necessary
- Write reports about home visits, referrals, and overall work as needed
- Respond to phone calls and emails in a timely manner
- Attend one-on-one meetings with the Lead Volunteer Coordinator
- Participate in annual door-knocking activities
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience in the coordination of volunteers preferred
- Spanish speaker with the ability to communicate in English with external partners
- Have and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license
- Must have a reliable vehicle for field work and to attend external meetings (mileage reimbursed)
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Google Drive

Work Environment and Physical Demands
This position is performed in various indoor locations, including a professional office environment and in the community, including in participants’ homes.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently moves materials weighing up to 20 pounds from location to location. Employee ascends/descends stairs when needed for home visits. The employee must be able to bend and sit on the floor with children occasionally.
